2018 Poster Artist
Rebecca Loveless, 35, was raised in South Florida. She currently resides in Delray with her husband Mathew Kooiker. She graduated from University of Florida 2004, cum laude with a degree in Visual Art Studies. She then moved to New York to pursue a career in gallery work but was sidetracked when she found tattooing. Loveless apprenticed in Queens, NY and eventually returned to Florida in 2010. She received attention when she opened the first tattoo shop of Delray in June 2016. Tradition Tattoo opened in 2012 in Boca Raton, then made history by relocating to Loveless’s home in Delray Beach. Her tattoo shop is now 5 yrs, and has paved the way for other tattoo studios to open in the city. Loveless has been featured in many local art shows and continues to stay active in her community. You can also find her performing Improv comedy with local community ImprovU.
The piece “Seagulls and the Giant Garlic” is a continuation of the artist’s 2016 contribution “Big Garlic”. Loveless was inspired by “James and the Giant Peach” as the birds carry their massive haul across the oceans. In this vignette the Florida Seagulls are guiding our garlic to its display. Tiny details and whimsy capture the music and community of the event. The artists included many Florida elements to enhance the piece. Palm trees, a bright sunset, and colorful palette continue the story of the winning garlic.
